What melody is your name?
Something extraordinary happened to me the other day. I witnessed innovation first hand, something rare and inspiring.
I was attending a wedding and as it would very often be - there was a part where close family members gave a speech.
When the time came for the father of the bride to talk, he went and stood behind a keyboard, the ones you play music on. “My daughter’s initials are C.A.B.” said the father, “and these are the keys that correspond to her initials”, and he pressed three keys on the keyboard. “Now, if we combine them into a melody, it sounds like this“, and he played a short melody using those three keys. The melody of the names of his daughter.
Then he went on to do the same for the groom’s initials. It was a different melody, but just as unique as the first one.
“Now”, he said, “let’s combine them and see what melody this marriage creates”. And he played a beautiful and very personal melody, composed from the initials of the two names.
And this is what innovation is - taking something and applying it to a different realm. Taking a name and translating it into music.
Sounds simple, once you know about it. But you first need to be able to see it.
